I was snorkelling in the Mediterranean ocean. It was a calm, sunny July as we swam about. I was the last to get into the motorboat. The people in charge, against my better judgement,
recommended I get in the back.
As I climbed in, I slipped, hitting the gear leaver on the side of the engine.
Suddenly the water was a whole lot warmer. I looked into the ocean, and a small piece of flesh went past.
Since we had been fishing, I thought nothing of it and climbed in the side of the boat. Swinging my left leg up, the people in the boat all made shocked noises.
Looking down, I saw My leg had been sliced clean right across the front, about 2cm from the knee.
I looked at the wound. Looked at the driver and said "I think I need medical assistance" before falling into the boat.
They stitched me up. 15 stiteches, I think it was, and I was fine, except that I have a numb patch all around that part below the knee where it hit the nerve.
I was very lucky not to lose the leg. Or worse.
