obviously, jimi hendrix... his recordings from the 60s sound as good as anything today, and his live playing was unbelievable.
stevie ray vaughan gets a nod as well, he could play anything he wanted to, in any style he wanted to... but of course, its all subjective.
tom morello (rage, audioslave) has to be the most innovative... noone can do what he does with a guitar, at least from what ive seen... or heard
