My mother was from South Carolina, and even though she spent 40+ years in Arizona she never lost the accent. I grew up in a household where we said y'all and I still use it occationally. I used to get a lot of grief about it when I was younger, so it sort of faded from my vocabulary, but every now and again it slips out and I always seem to get a reaction.
