From personal experience, don't put your face too close to the receiver (or scope, if equipped). When I was 6, my dad took me on my first shooting excursion. Went to the range to shoot an old .410 single shot. Being so young, I couldn't put the stock against my shoulder, so I tucked it up under my underarm. I cocked the hammer, looked down the barrel to aim, squeezed the trigger and . . . BANG! The hammer came up and sliced a huge gash above my eye! Hurt like hell!
Moral of the story- Keep your face a good distance away from the receiver. Other than that, just be safe and have fun!
