Important papers
I had the misfortune of working in the Insurance Adjustment industry many years ago. Insurance adjusters are people that are really, really good at numbers, but don't have the personality to be accountants. (Sorry in advance BonesCPA)
I saw a lot of burned out houses. Funny though, the inside of the fridge was always spared. Even in the most extreem cases.
I've kept copies of all of my important documents in an empty mayo jar in the fridge for 25 years. Insurance papers, wills, stuff like that. It's a great way to preserve important stuff.
