in reference to that photo...
i believe that in ancient japan (i´m thinking perhaps edo period) to have ones teeth painted black was a sign of marriage, and of social standing.
but something tells me this lovely lady just hasn´t had the luxury of decent teeth care.
i´ve had a few cavities in my time, but these days i take good care of my teeth.
