Doesn't anybody see a contradiction with the way marriage is currently being handled?
Given:
- Separation of Church and State
- Marriage as a religious convention
- Married couples getting government benefits
Therefore:
- Either marriage cannot be a religious convention, and therefore should be just as appropriate for two men or two women.
or
- The separation of church and state renders marriage unconstitutional, and nobody gets married, period.
I think the answer is ridiculously simple. Let people get married to whoever the hell they want.
