I've been in several group encounters. Most of them were threesomes. With a threesome, the most important thing to remember (after protection) is to make sure that EVERYONE in the group is 100% comfortable with the situation. The only bad experience I have ever had was coming home after a night of drinking with two of my best friends. They were both single, we were all drunk, and we all regretted it in the morning. My friend Michelle felt horribly embarrassed the next day and now I hardly see her. NEVER get into a threesome with drunks, especially if they are your close friends.
