My ex-wife used to make me look under all the beds and check the closets before she would go to bed. I dunno, I don't see some psychopath sitting in a closet all evening while we watch TV and then after we've gone to sleep, jump out and attack us.
As far as rigging up a shot gun, it's called a man trap and I'm pretty sure they're wildly illegal. If you do try it, let us know how the firefighter breaking down your door to save your life managed after getting blasted with a shotgun.
