I now only use acrylics...Some colors are transparent or semi-transparent, others are opaque and will color over anything...They do dry quickly, which takes a little getting use to, since I was used to oil. When using acrylics I tend to paint the large background areas and structured the piece, then back over for details. No problem painting white over dark.
