Actually, Obie, there's nothing to worry about here. Quantum physics (both that of point-particles and strings) tells us that the fundamental objects of the world travel every possible path, "choosing" the ones we observe for reasons currently unknown. This is best seen with the double-slit experiment...very weird but well-explained.
It has been thusly said that it's plausible that there are multiple, actually infinite, universes, one for every possible outcome.
Finally, then, if you were to kill your parents, nothing has to change, since that outcome has already been accounted for in another universe, a universe in which you do not exist.
