This might help a bit (which both my girlfriend and I love): instead of just flexing your legs while keeping them in place which can quickly lead to cramping, have her wrap her legs back around yours (assuming your legs are in between hers...for other positions you might have to try something else). You both flex your legs but counter the other person, so you put a lot less stress. Plus, the added tightness is amazing.
If doing this in the first place caused the problem, then who knows...otherwise, give it a try
