Math 113 Problem
hey all...if anyone can be of some input...
Story:
The past year has not been good for Bob. First, he lost his left hand in a serious xmas shopping accident, and his toaster stopped working properly. Specifically the middle element of the three doesn't work, tihs means the toaster can only toast half a piece of bread in each slot at the same time. So, obviously to taost a single piece of bread completely, bob must toast the first side, turn the slice around and toast the back. (or does he?). Of course bob could buy a new toaster, but he is cheap and mentally retarded, and comes to you for help instead.
After the introductions are made, bob explains to you that he always has three pieces of tast with his coffee every mornign. He further goes on to explain thath e wants to make the 3 pieces as qiuckly as possible and he has timed each step he takes to help you come up with a solution. It takes bob 30 seconds to tast a single side in one slot, 5 to take a piece out, 5 to put one back in, and if he flips it over, that takes 3 more seconds. (times are approximate)
Give bob a schedule that will be efficient as possible for him to get the three tasks done and keeping in mind that because ofh is physical impairment and mental retardation it would be IMPOSSIBLE to do 2 manual tasks at the same time...
well thats it...this is a big chunk of my final grade in math..so..any input would be greatly appreciated...
and for those of you who arn't familiar with the type of toaster it is...
it has 2 slots for 2 pieces of bread, with a "heater" on the left, center and right side of each slot, the center part is the piece that is broken, so only the outside of the bread gets toasted... this is kinda like that problem we did as kids witht he farmer, duck, wolf, and duck seed andhad to get from one side of the river to the other, but only taking one thing at a time...etc. etc.
if anyone can help, it'd be greatly appreciated.
