Hubs connect two or more computers together, Routers connect a network of 2 or more computers to another network of computers (the internet for example). The real job of the router is to only pass relevent traffic. For example a router wouldn't pass data to the internet if it's meant to be received by a computer on your personal network but would pass internet traffic to and from the internet. Routers can do more complex things but this is basically what they do.
