It will bounce SPAM back to the sender, making it look like your addy is defunct. It acts as an intermediary step between the server and your computer and will identify Virus infected mails before they get a sniff of your hard disk. You can delete mail off server (say if someone has sent you a humungous file) and you can create filters too.
