I live in the NYC area and don't go nearly as often as I'd like to. I love live theater - and the intimate feel of it. (The revival of 1776 remains one of the - if not THE - best play I've seen since moving here five years ago.)
Why don't we go more? Couple reasons: First off is price. Most tickets are $80 or higher - even with the half-off TKTS booth, that's $40-$50 per person. And Yoshi and I don't have the money (when you toss in parking and dinner). Also, since we don't live in the city, dragging ourselves in takes motivation we may not have. After our work weeks, the last thing we want to do is go into "NYC-mode" where we're on our guard and putting off "go away" vibes to strangers.
