I like to give my players what they want.
My TMNT campaign was lots of sneaking around, combat, and humor. Mostly action and lots of dice-rolling, but that's what that setting was best at.
The Vampire campaign was almost entirely story/character driven. Many weeks could pass without combat. It was more about the mood.
I've played in both and prefer a balance between the two. Too much story can be boring if you're not into the same things the GM is or if they aren't good at drawing the players in. Too much combat is mindless.
rogue49, props to your GM for running a Mage campaign. I really liked the setting, but found the rules too loose and too hard to explain to a newbie. Unless things have changed a lot from the first edition, GMing that game would be a nightmare.
How did it play?
