You may think it's funny, but i had a boss who fought in Desert Storm - his unit wore flea collars on each wrist and it really did fend off the little buggers..
Either way, you're on the right track.. You may want to consider treating your yard tho, and a repeat treatment is key to staying flea free. We helped my grandparents with them once. It's no picnic but worth the effort.
