Secondly, if teachers were to be among the higher paid then aspirations of the majority of future generations would be to become teachers. Therefore emphasis would be placed on theory and concepts, rather than application of such and would be a step backwards in the economy. [/B]
Teachers was meant only as an example of the idocy of the way salaries are distributed in this country. ANd teachers are GROSSLY underpaid here. I have no knowledge of teaching salaries elsewhere in the world but know many many fine teachers in this country who struggle daily to make ends meet. There are many more professions that deserve good salaries. I don't think an ability to lie and pretend to be someone else for the cameras should be one of them (yes, acting is merely an enhanced form of lying). Now, before the flames start pouring in, I do LOVE movies and like some of what is out there on TV. And I don't mind paying for my entertainment. However, that doesn't mean these people's paychecks are justified. I guess I just feel that salaries should be determined by intelligence and the benefit of the job rather than by the entertainment value. Do any of you realize your local garbage man probably makes significantly MORE money than the people teaching your children how to read, write, do math, etc? Why do the most mindless jobs deserve to be paid more money than those that require constant, high-quality thought?
