I think the biggest problem with all of the people who didn't like the movie is that they depended on it as an escape from real life, even if for 2 hours. They expected it to be entirely seperate from the world around us and to have no tie-ins to actual reality. They don't want to be reminded of the real world while watching this movie. That might be okay, if not for the fact that the makers specifically made the humor tie in with everyday life, and what goes on in the world. They tried to make the movie just a movie, and not make it an alternate reality for people to practice their escapism, so the real problem is that those upset with the movie are so because it was just that, a movie.
