I think it was B.Franklin who said, 'They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.'
As long as the US doesn't change it's attitude towards the rest of the world and the middle east in particular, it will be threatened. Simply because it's attitude is threatening to 'them'.
But more importantly, you have to wonder to what extent the war and the terrorist threats are being used as an opportunity to undermine civil rights, to create a totalitarian state...
