That's exactly what people are proposing to implement in California. We have to revamp our voting system before the recall election. I was watching a program on PBS about the recall vote and it was discussion voter sentiment in California. According to the program, California is so large and influential that when we do something, the nation notices and usually follows.
The second article I posted restates that belief--that California's voting/political/technological climate is ripe for rehaul and innovation and could reshape the electronic voting landscape for the country if people voice widespread support for implementing paper trail safeguards.
