GTA3 problems (ddhelp & win_vdm)
after a fresh reboot, I can launch and run my copy of GTA3. works fine until I get out to the airport, then it freezes. hit esc button and it kicks back to desktop, giving the following error:
ddhelp has caused invalid page fault in unknown module
then if I try to start the game again, i get a "win_vdm is missing" error immediately and the it wont even attempt to load or run.
if I reboot, then the game will run fine again (or at least until I get to the airport and go out near the hangers)
so, I did some googling and found out that ddhelp is a component of Direct X. ran the DXdiagnostic and found no problems. tried to extract win_vdm from my win98se disc to replace it into the windows system folder, but cannot find it.
anyone got any ideas?
specs:
win98se
radeon 7500 vidcard (64mb)
256mb of ram
amd athlon 750mghz processor
game has been running fine for weeks now, but started crapping out on me last night. the only thing I have done that I think could even remotely be a cause is that I have been altering the handling characteristics of some vehicles (so far just the tank and the Dodo) in the handling.cfg file. Im gonna try putting the numbers back to what they should be and see if that helps. meanwhile I wanted to put this out here in case it doesnt.
