You people who think that you'd fight against it
do realize that you're just fantasizing, right? I sure hope so.

Unfortunately, no one has yet measured the swimming speed of a White Shark going flat-out. Analysis of White Sharks attacking a video camera-equipped surfboard off the South Farallon Islands, California, give some indication of this animal's attack speed. Current consensus among shark scientists is that the top swimming speed of the Great White is at least 25 miles (40 kilometres) per hour. My own rough, back-of-the-envelope-type calculations - using several methods - suggest that the White Shark may achieve burst speeds of 35 miles (56 kilometres) per hour or more. That may not seem very speedy, but it's seven times faster than the finest Olympic swimmer and probably at least ten times faster than you or I could manage.

For stalking - the coloring of the great white makes for excellent camouflage in the ocean - dark above, and light below makes it difficult to be detected while swimming on the bottom (great whites strike from below)
For striking - a large, powerful body and specially designed tail that provides for enormous bursts of energy for striking with such tremendous strength that the first bite is frequently a death blow

That is to say, you wouldn't even see the shark coming. Furthermore, this damned thing can grow up to about 30 feet long, and can weigh about 4.5 tons. That is to say, think of something that weighs as much as 3.5 cars, heading towards you at around 25 to 35 miles per hour. Even if you got insanely lucky and landed a punch on its nose, your whole hand would be completely shattered. This isn't even mentioning the amount of displacement produced by its massiveness and speed. You also can't do that silly cliché of dodging it and grabbing onto it's fin. If you got really lucky, you might dodge it successfully, but the amount of force slamming onto your hands as you grasp onto its fin might likely rip your arms out of their sockets
If I'm wrong about any of this, just let me know!
