yes, superset terminology is still used...so not worries there.
Don't worry about what other's think when you pick up the weights. It can be a bit daunting, but you can bet most of those in there using the larger weights started out small.
Besides, they don't have to deal with the injuries you can incur by using too heavy of a weight...you do.
Just make sure you are using proper form and control. Pick up a few issues of a lifting magazine (Can I recommend Flex??) They have routines and usually break them up in experience levels.
