Static pages once they are full
Given how the mods point out that the VB script is sort of expensive per cycle I was thinking of a small improvement that could be made. Once a page fills with comments it becomes essentially static, but is still generated every time it is viewed. Because the page is *full* its a fairly expensive view, and its not changing anyway. sending a static page is *much* cheaper than sending a dynamic page so the server would save itself a lot of work by rendering the page to HTML, once, and just handing it out whenever its viewed. The same thing goes for the front-most page, which is probably the most viewed page.
The changes that this enhancement would require are relatively minor, but I think the rewards would be quite tangible. Hell I would be willing to look into it when I get back from vacation, particularly or I'm sure one of the other TFP geeks could do it in two or three days.
anyway, just an idea.
