obediah,
My interputaion of World's King's statement differs somewhat from your own.
Discussion of such a topic as this is prone to be drifting and easliy turned to the negative. Making sweeping, negative, bashing-type, statements is very easy. Those statements tend to be the epitomy of bigotry, ignorance; among other things.
Rather than asking for an ass licking, I thing the King was asking for a discussion in which I say, for example, "Americans are fat." Then I go on to support my statement with reasons as to why I think that. Perhaps a visit to the US, perhaps US news reports on TV. Reasons, my friend, as opposed to the virulent attitude that spews "Americans are fat pigs."
A thread of US, or other, bashing would be utterly pointless.
America has the unfortunate tendancy to be used as a whipping post, so the disclaimer is necessary.
(For the most part...) When we talk about, say, Australia the discussion goes to cool things we've seen on the news, or a great vacation and all the fun things seen and done during it. When America comes up, invariabley the discussion turns to a cacophany of axes being ground.
Following that, I get utterly sick of the predicable, mob-think displayed on this board.
Then I leave. Then I am unable to share my thoughts with the world, and the world suffers just a little bit for it.
(If you think I'm arrogent to make such a statement, then you should check your self-esteem, or lack thereof. Of the few things in life that matter, human thought is at the top of the list. They all matter.)
