Please. If the Yanks offered Pedro $15 mil a year, for the chance to win the series, you know he'd jump at it. Or maybe you think he'd like to spend the rest of his career waiting until next year.

Yes, the Yankees spend money. And now, we also give EVERY team in the league money to help you try to beat us. When the other owners decide to piss it away on shitty players, or worse, not use it on baseball at all, then it's not our fault. The Yankees sign players to high salaries, but if they don't perform, they're gone.

And for my special friends, the Sox fans, we have the same rivalry a hammer and nail have. Let me refresh your memory.

Quote:
Dec. 26, 1919: Red Sox owner Harry Frazee gives Yankees a late Christmas present by selling them Babe Ruth's contract. Legend has it move was made to allow Frazee to finance Broadway show "No, No, Nanette."

May 1, 1920: Ruth hits first homer as a Yankee in 6-0 win over Boston. Ruth finishes season with 54 homers, more than twice as many as entire Red Sox team.

April 18, 1923: Yankee Stadium opens and Ruth hits a three-run homer in 4-1 victory over Boston. Yanks go on to win first of 26 World Series.

May 25, 1935: Ruth hits final three homers of career for Boston - the Boston Braves. Red Sox struggle to fourth-place finish.

1941: Ted Williams hits .406, but the Red Sox finish 17 games behind Yanks, who ride Joe DiMaggio's record 56-game hitting streak to 101 wins and another title.

Oct. 15, 1946: Red Sox, in first trip to Series since selling Ruth, lose Game 7 to Cardinals, 4-3, when Johnny Pesky holds ball and allows Enos Slaughter to score from first.

Oct. 1, 1961: On last day of season, Roger Maris hits record-breaking 61st homer off Boston's Tracy Stallard at Yankee Stadium. Standings have familiar refrain as Boston finishes in sixth place, 33 games behind champion Yankees.

Oct. 12, 1967: Boston's "Dream Season" comes to nightmarish end in Game 7 of Series as pitcher Jim Lonborg gives up seven runs in six innings to Cardinals. Maris, now with Cards, hits .385 in Series.

Oct. 21, 1975: Boston's Carlton Fisk hits game-winning homer in the bottom of 12th inning to win Game 6 of World Series. Next day, Red Sox take 3-0 lead into sixth inning against Cincinnati, but lose decisive Game 7, 4-3, on a bloop single in ninth.

June 18, 1977: Yankees don't seem to need Red Sox as a rival, since they have themselves. In sixth inning of game at Fenway Park, outfielder Reggie Jackson and manager Billy Martin share heated exchange and have to be separated in dugout. Yanks lose game, but win pennant by 2½ games over Red Sox. New York wins 21st World Series as Jackson earns "Mr. October" nickname with three homers in Game 6.

July 17, 1978: Defending champs find themselves 14 games behind Red Sox.

Sep. 7, 1978: Yankees travel to Boston for four-game series, trailing first-place Red Sox by four games.

Sep. 10, 1978: Yanks leave Boston with series sweep, outscoring Sox 42-9.

Oct. 2, 1978: With Yanks trailing 2-0 in seventh inning of one-game playoff, light-hitting shortstop Bucky Dent hits three-run homer to send them to 5-4 victory and AL East crown.

Oct. 17, 1978: Dent is World Series MVP as Yankees earn another championship.

July 4, 1983: Dave Righetti gives Yankee owner George Steinbrenner birthday present by pitching no-hitter against Red Sox in the Bronx. Wade Boggs, eventual AL batting champion, strikes out to end the game.

Oct. 25, 1986: Yankee fans don't know who to root for in a Red Sox-Mets World Series. At least they have a good laugh as Red Sox come within one strike from Series title in Game6, but allow Mets to put together three-run rally in 10th, capped by Bill Buckner's error. Two days later, Boston brings 3-0 lead into sixth inning of Game 7, but loses, 8-5.

Oct. 23, 1996: AL East champion Yankees win Game 4 of World Series when former Red Sox Wade Boggs draws bases-loaded walk in 10th. Bombers go on to win first Series in 18 years, 4 games to 2.

1998: Bosox win 92 games but finish 22 games behind the Yanks. Boston bows out in first round of playoffs; Bombers steam roll Padres on way to championship No. 24.

Oct. 13, 1999: Red Sox take a 3-0 lead in first two innings of Game 1 ALCS at Yankee Stadium, but lose, 4-3, on Bernie Williams' homer in 10th.

Oct. 14, 1999: Yankees overcome Boston's 2-1 lead in Game2 as Chuck Knoblauch and Paul O'Neill pick up RBI hits in seventh inning of a 3-2 win.

Oct. 16, 1999: The Red Sox rough up their former ace, Roger Clemens, on way to 13-1 rout of Yanks in Game 3.

Oct. 17, 1999: Yankees benefit from Knoblauch's phantom tag at second base in eighth inning, then score six runs in ninth for a 9-2 triumph in Game 4.

Oct. 18, 1999: Babe Ruth's daughter throws out the first pitch at Fenway Park. The Red Sox lose, 6-1, as Yankees clinch AL pennant on way to beating the Braves for yet another world championship. The Red Sox have not been back to playoffs since.

May 30, 2001: Pedro Martinez, gets caught up in rivalry, delivering brush back on the notion Red Sox are cursed by Ruth. "I'm getting tired of talking about the Yankees," Pedro says. "It's so stupid. It's starting to upset me. Look, I don't believe in damn curses. Why don't we just wake up the Bambino and I'll have him face me and maybe I'll drill him in the ass."

Sep. 2, 2001: Mike Mussina retires first 26 batters at Fenway Park before pinch-hitter Carl Everett breaks up perfect game bid with single in ninth inning. Mussina ends up with 1-0 victory against a pitcher familiar with perfect games - former Yank David Cone.

Dec. 26, 2002: After Yanks agree to contract with Cuban pitcher Jose Contreras, whom the Red Sox had coveted, Boston team president Larry Lucchino calls Steinbrenner's team "Evil Empire." Rivalry continues, as one-sided as ever.
Did I leave anything out?
