Awakening
Awakening
I haven’t written poetry for 18 years.
Today I wrote a poem.
Feelings welled up inside me that I
had forgotten were there.
Water is flowing again in the channel
and life is stirring.
Darkness is lifting, lifting finally and
the sun is blinding.
I have awoken and my eyes are
watering at the sight.
I think I can make out the shape of it.
The shape is you.

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." – C. S. Lewis
