Most of the things that piss me off boil down to two things...respect and integrity--especially at work, and this has come up recently. Working in a place with strict codes of behavior, "policy" runs most of the things we are and are not allowed to do as waiters in my restaurant. There very clear rules concerning damn near every aspect of our restaurant, all the way down to having to wear a 100% cotton, pinpoint oxford, white button down dress shirt. Anything else will get you written up and sent home for being out of uniform. Now, in a place that lays such great emphasis on "policy" and "rules," if you don't have the integrity to enforce those rules equally and fairly, across the board, you have no business being in a management position. If you don't have the integrity to not lie to your employees concerning "policy," you don't belong in a management position. If you're going to tell someone that something is "policy" then three weeks later blatantly contradict yourself as to what the "policy" is--to that person's detriment both times--you have no business having a say in anything in this life as you don't have the intelligence and integrity to be in a position where you affect others' lives. People who feel they have to lie in order to cover up their inadequacies, their playing of 'favorites' and their lack of responsibility and basic respect are what piss me off. Someone that will tell me a bald-faced lie to get me to do something, then show that they're lying a short time later apparently doesn't respect me as a person or respect my intelligence, nor do they have the integrity to tell the truth in the first place. Yea, this turned into a rant, and I said alot of it to one of the managers at work, which is why I'm currently suspended and pending termination--because I have the integrity to stick by my word and not be lied to and misused in a theoretically "professional" environment. Yet this time, like every time, if I want to keep my job, I swallow my pride, claim that I'm the one who is wrong and hopefully finish out the last four weeks of my employment there.
