Forgotten Dreamer
Tell us a story of a far off place
Where a man stands alone
And fights a dragon.
He stands without fear
For his sword shines in the light
Like a thousand suns.
Here the dreamer lashes out,
His blade piercing the scaled hide!
Often the man will awake pleased,
Knowing the dragon was slain.
Sometimes he will wake suddenly,
The dragon's dagger teeth nearly finding purchase.
Still he is not dismayed,
For he knows the dreamer shall fight again.
One day the dreamer must fade,
But he will mock the beast with his last breath
Knowing he was not beaten,
And though the man shall be missed
The dream shall live on.
Saddest though is the forgotten dreamer,
The one at last felled by razor claws.
For though the man shall awake,
He will not dream.
And the dragon shall laugh,
For when it turns
It bears the dreamer's face.
