Actually I have tried it a few times on my TiBook, but this is a small town with a relativly tech-ignorant population so it is pretty much useless. I only found a single open AP

Well lets Put aside thinking that an insurance company would open any part of its network up. But a resturant might, and they could easily put in a cable modem or DSL as the AP, rather than hooking up to thier network. So no reason to encode anything, since its a standard internet connection. Its really common in San Fran area, and even Mcdonalds is getting on the bandwagon with wifi in select locations. And if mcD's says this wifi thing works, lets put it everywhere, then wardriving would be obsolete.
