FFVII was the first game I actually took note of the background music. Spent months searching out the MIDI's, before realizing there was a cd import available.
Tenchu is another franchise with absolutely marvelous tunes. Except for the original title screen music.... that screeching voice I could have done without.
And more recently, Blizzards titles [ Diablo I/II , Warcraft III ] have some nice elements. but quite repetitive.
