I'm not sure these two statistics are as linked as you might think. I reall believe that file sharing rose more because of a centralized network(ie. Napster) that contained music rather than having to search through many FTP sites for the music you needed. There is also the fact that within recent times the saturation of broadband connections has risen making file sharing much more appealing. I tend to agree Rockzilla in that more cds may be bought but many people would just be spending the same amount of money and having it go further.
