Bear in mind that what you hear when you listen to yourself sing is almost certainly going to sound different to what you sound like recorded. Greg700 is right - make a recording and have a listen. It's quite sobering
Oh, and being in a band will also certainly not involve lots of money
The trick is to find like-minded people to jam with and see if you enjoy it. If you don't, get out, and fast.
