I don't think it's doing a conversion, as this happens when I install the program on a new PC with no PDF files. Also, it takes a really long time. I'm installing on a Pentium 2.4 Ghz system and the recompost takes nearly 5 minutes. I think bullgoose has the right idea. It just seems strange that Adobe forces you to go through this strange process before installing the program.
