I'd really like to know. I hear people on the news saying stuff like "oh, Liverpool...cultural centre of the EU in five years...etc....blah de blah de blah...", but I don't know why. I there something I don't know?
btw, this is not a sarcastic post. I am genuinely befuddled.

All I can say Pyrate is that you are more than welcome to come and visit our little port anytime. I accept that you live in the capital of our land and that alone carries so much history that there just isn't enough time to go into that. Liverpool has an amazing amount of history too. Again, if I had all day I could bore you to death I'm sure!
In a nutshell, Liverpool is a growing, dynamic, warm, friendly and exciting city. I'm very proud to be a Scouser as I've said before. I've not met many people who are as passionate about where they live as Scousers are about their home town, and I talk to people from all over the UK during the working day.
Be sure of one thing though. The stereotypical Scouser is a distant image. Yes we buy more Trainers than any other city, but hey, we have a thing about sports shoes!
Live long and prosper!
