Actually the number is much, much higher than that. The largest city, and capitol of Utah, Salt Lake City, is actually less than 50% Mormon. Some smaller towns, like Park City, where I grew up, have an even smaller percentage. When you get into the more rural areas, the Mormon percentage skyrockets to nearly 100% in some less populated areas, but the total non-mormon percentage of Utah is closer to 25 or 30%, not 5%.
I too have vowed never to return, mostly because its such a shame that such a beautiful place is so sullied by such backward thinking, but the conception that Utah is 95% mormon is grossly incorrect.
