The reason that "sick bastard" was surrounded is because he is a suspect, not because he was found guilty of this heinous crime. If he is indeed found guilty as charged without any doubt, then I would fully endorse the most severe punishment upon him. However, since his is the only suspect, the court wants his physical identity protected in case he is found innocent and set free. If he is actually innocent (although that would seem unlikely in the case of a DNA match), I bet he still would have a hard time reintegrating society if everyone knew not only his name, but what he looks like.
This is why I understand and appreciate the actions of the police. He hasn't been found guilty yet, so there's no reason for his face to be posted everywhere with potential libel.
