But he was hidden from view by about a half-dozen court officers, while he sat in the prisoner’s box to learn that his case has been remanded until July 2. Briere was arrested early on Friday at his west-end home, close to Holly’s residence.
The arrest came after an intensive 40-day investigation executed by the police.
The search for a killer started after Holly's dismembered remains were found on May 13, a day after she went missing.
Meanwhile, not much is known about Briere. He grew up in Quebec and moved to Toronto after graduating from high school.
“Always alone too,” said Paul Santos, who is from Briere’s area. “Never see him with anybody else. Average guy, clean cut, short hair and everything.”
Sources in the police said that small green fibers and DNA from Holly’s fingernails eventually led to the murder charge.
Police Chief Julian Fantino is saying there is no evidence that Michael Briere and Holly knew each other. Forensic officers are still going over the suspect's home with a fine tooth comb in the hunt for evidence. They'll likely be there for several more days.

This sick bastard is accused of kidnapping, murdering and dismembering a 10 year old girl in Toronto.
I think about those half dozen court officers that surrounded this pedophile and the job that they were performing. Obviously, the public in attendance in the courtroom were not under any threat from Michael Briere. It is easy to conclude that they were present to shield the accused from the public and possibly protect him from harm.
Can you even imagine taking a bullet for this sicko???
It is a better person than me that can stand beside this piece of turd and refrain from throttling him, let alone protecting him.
