I was under the impression the SD cards are only secure if the material on them is stored in a secure fashion, i.e.: you purchased an SD card with MP3 files on it.
I haven't noticed a huge price difference in SD vs. MMC cards. I bought a SanDisk 128 MB SD card from Staples for $50 on sale - few months ago.
