"Lesson Silence Teaches"
Late one evening I sat with God,
Amidst the silence of the lake.
Drifting in the stillness with
Not a sound to be heard, -
Relaxing in the coolness of
The winters evening air, -
My heartbeat became a whisper,
Loud as the footsteps of a giant.
I knew I had a thousand questions,
To which I've always sought the answers.
I scavenged through a blank mind
Trying to remember what to ask.
I became upset and colder with
My lack of memory in the moment, -
Beside myself with doubt and fear,
I trembled to recall my questions.
My entire life I searched for meaning,
I could not let it slip away.
Yet once again I felt content,
Although nothing at all was said.
But simply, I looked at God in silence
And He quietly looked back at me.
Late one evening I sat with God
Amidst the silence of the lake.
I was content with all my questions,
Because I already knew his answer.
