I love the magic of musicals but haven't really seen that many.
As a kid, I loved the
Wizard of Oz, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Grease, and Little Shop of Horrors and still do. I probably have seen others I like, but I can't remember them.
More recently, I've discovered the joy of classic musicals such as
An American in Paris. I've been meaning to see more.
Just before that, I enjoyed watching
Moulin Rouge in the theatre when it first came out, and I've watched it a few times on video since (and I rarely rewatch movies). I know this helped usher in a resurgence of musicals, but I haven't really seen many other recent ones.
I really should build a movie list. Maybe this thread will help.
I've also enjoyed a few live ones:
Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Sound of Music, We Will Rock You, and
Rock of Ages—and, of course, a high-school performance of
The Wizard of Oz in which aberkok played the Cowardly Lion.
I don't know what it is I like about musicals. I guess its the trading of storytelling modes alternating between spoken word and song. It's entertaining, and, as I've mentioned above, the really good ones are nothing short of magical.
Oh, and I mustn't forget:
