requesting help with slow videos in browser
My internet speed is usually between 2 and 4 mbps, according to speedtest.net and at pingtest.net the result is usually C or D rating. This one always fails trying to measure packet loss. When I try to watch videos on youtube and other video sites they load far slower than is practical to watch them. A 10 minute 480p video will take an hour or so to fully load. It takes as long to download using keepvid.com. The file size is only about 60mb which at a 2mbps speed should take 30 seconds. I know the speed is also affected by factors at the other end but an hour for a 60mb file is one mb per minute, equals about 16kbps if my maths is correct. That's slow enough that something has to be wrong somewhere. I have no idea what, or how to fix it.
I'm in Vietnam where there are government firewalls and things in place to block Facebook and the BBC, etc, but this problem has only just come up and I haven't heard any similar complaints from people I know here. I have hunch it has to do with the packet loss thing but I have no clue what packets are or why I might be losing them.
Can anyone help with this? Big thanks to anyone who can lend a hand. My browser is Chrome but the same happens in IE and Firefox.
