Due to my love of equality, following my post of a New York Times article, here's one from FOXNews.com:
US tries Carrot-and-Stick Policy in Iraq
Lead: "They hand out soccer balls to children and halt traffic so elderly people can safely cross busy streets. They high-five bemused youngsters who follow them everywhere."
I guess since the whole "winning of hearts and minds" thing worked so well in Vietnam, we'll try it again. Reminds me of the scene in Full Metal Jacket when they're working on articles for the paper and refer to "grunts giving their pay to buy gooks toothbrushes" or something like that.
