I've only had one ear pierced a couple of lifetimes ago. It was back when it was just starting to become socially acceptable for guys to pierce their ears. Had a couple people question my sexual orientation. Still remember the shocked "Oh!....you have an earring..." look from the older relatives who would promptly change the subject. Had one boss who said "An earring?! Seriously?" and walked away disgusted then hardly spoke to me for a week.
When everyone got used to the diamond stud, I went out and got a gold hoop and it started all over again. lol
I originally got the earring as an I'm going to do my own thing type of statement. The negative reactions were a humorous bonus.
I took the earring out a long time ago. Never got anything else pierced. If I was 25-30 years younger right now, I'd probably have multiple piercings.
