I think you could well apply this kind of terminology to people who stand on the wrong side of the escalator.

Of course, I approve of defending this girl in the face of the thuggery of the hooligan described; but you could have started off with a very polite request for him to stop, and if he responded in any way other than complete compliance and immediate apology, flared up asked him if he was calling you a cunt and he wanted to have a go?
Thats how I would have handled it.
