making new friends later in life

i'm turning 37 soon and am hankering a bit for some new friends. i was fine with my stable of friends till last year when a real good friend of mine died. it just doesn't seem as easy to put myself out there now as it was when i was in college and high school. it's been that long since i really tried i guess, but i've lost touch with some friends that got married and dropped off the earth and with others that have moved away, so there are a lot of things i like to do that i don't have a partner in crime for.

i don't know whether it's a matter of me not being as tolerant as i was with putting up with other people's red flags to get to a point where a friendship is good or if like i was, most people are satisfied with what they have going already so there's a dearth of available quality friends.

i live in l.a. so it's not like there's not a lot of options and from what i know i'm a likable guy with good social skills, so i'm just writing this to get it out there and fill in some gaps i guess.

thoughts?
