Actually there is, but it's used so little you probably don't even realize it
(Of course, if you're not using Gnome or KDE I don't think there is a system tray)
So, in my KDE system tray I have...*drumroll*...klipper (clipboard management tool)
In Windows there are a couple things - AIM and a couple others - I think the total is something like 4.
