I think you'll find that no matter how you treat jeans, you aren't going to make non-dressy jeans look more professional, stylish or 'dressy'. Dress jeans have a much different fit, and you'll also notice that the seaming on fancier jeans is on the inside. Compare a set of 7 or Lucky Jeans against a normal Levi, and you'll see. The wash also makes a big difference, with the darker being (generally speaking) more dressy. Go for dark to medium-dark blues, but avoid black unless you can pull it off - most people can't.
They're pricy, but if you dropped $300 on three pairs between the upper-end denim (7, Lucky, etc.) in medium to dark washes you'll have all you ever need. They don't even really need to be pressed and they look great.
